What you have is that you are looking at an army which has been at war now for over ten years; the war has been a failure.”

Conn Hollinan, with Foreign Policy in Focus

The US-led war in Afghanistan has resulted in total failure and the American troops should withdraw from the Asian country to avoid further losses, a political analyst tells Press TV.

“What you have is that you are looking at an army which has been at war now for over ten years; the war has been a failure,” Conn Hollinan, with Foreign Policy in Focus said in a Friday interview.

“We’ve been defeated. And to continue to stay there is only going to increase these kinds of incidents. The only solution is to sit down, negotiate and get out of there as quickly as possible,” he added.

The analyst pointed out that the more the war drags on, the more “frustration” and “physical breaking down” become manifest in the behavior of the US-led troops.

Hollinan argued that Afghanistan is less secure today than after the 2001 invasion and because of the nature of the war, the US-led troops continued to “dehumanize” the Afghan population.

The rising number of military casualties in Afghanistan has caused widespread anger in the US and other members of the Western military alliance, NATO, undermining public support for the US-led war.
