Security forces launched an operation to retake the area on Tuesday morning after it fell to the Taliban over the weekend.
AVA-The Afghan security forces retook control of the center of Kohistan district in Faryab province at around 9pm on Tuesday.
Shaheen 209 Corps spokesman Nasratullah Jamshedi said the operation to retake the center of the district was launched on Tuesday morning.
He said more than 20 Taliban militants were killed in the operation.
Kohistan district, which fell to the Taliban over the weekend, is located 120 kilometers from Faryab’s capital Maimana city. It has 135 villages and a population of over 150,000.
It shares a border with Ghor, Badghis and Sar-e-Pul provinces in the west and northeastern parts of the country.
The district is also connected to Faryab’s Qaisar, Almar, Pashtoon Kot and Garziwan districts.
