Coalition commander vows to increase pressure on IS in Afghanistan
U.S. commander of international forces, John Nicholson, on Sunday vowed to increase pressure on Islamic State group in Afghanistan, two days after the group claimed deadly attack in Kabul.

AVA- Nicholson said this while visiting southern province of Kandahar along with deputy interior minister and ambassadors of Norway and Netherlands.

“We’ve been putting pressure on Daesh around the world and we’re going to put more pressure on Daesh here in Afghanistan,” Nicholson said while meeting with provincial officials.

He said that the coalition will be “providing advisers at conduct level in the Afghan army as we’re going to the next year.”

The general also warned that there will pressure on supporters of militants outside Afghanistan.

“Not only will have been pressure applied to the enemy on the battlefield in Afghanistan, but there will also be pressure applied to those who are supporting your enemies from outside of the country,” he said.

U.S. announced its new strategy on Afghanistan in August. While announcing the new strategy, President Donald Trump said that there will be more pressure on militant groups in Afghanistan and criticized Pakistan for providing safe havens.

During the meeting, Kandahar Governor Zalmai Weesa welcomed the strategy, adding developmental works would also help peace and security.

He called for implementation of some projects including dams in the province.

Meanwhile, General Abdul Raziq, the provincial police chief, said that the plan for peace should not resemble that for Syria and Yemen.
