Nothing Done for Cases of Violence Against Women, Says UNDP

AVA- As complained Mr. Ibrahim Abu Shamaala, the UNDP director in Afghanistan, the government related institutions lack the required cooperation and coordination for handling these cases.

Women rights activists and some organizations in Afghanistan launch every year a 16 days campaign for commemorating the International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women which was kicked off today, November 26, in Kabul.

Meanwhile, the country’s Supreme Courte is asking for reviewing the strategic elimination plan of violence against women in order to handle the cases more effectively.

“The Supreme Court is calling for reviewing and developing of strategic elimination plan of violence against women through which deficiencies and problems are recognized and some new political, legal and criminal policies should be pursued,” says Fekratullah Farhat, the Policy Dircetor at Afghan Supreme Courte.

The Ministry of Women Affairs’ spokesperson, Shakila Nazari, says that the level of violence against women has not decreased this year and refers to lack of Rule of Law in many provinces as the main reason.

Afghanistan’s Independent Human Rights Commission (IHRC) also has reported a record of nearly 4,000 cases of violence against women during the 10 month of this year.
