AVA-  US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel is an “irreparable mistake,” said Abdul Rab Rasul Sayyaf, Head of the Council for Protection and Stability in Afghanistan (CPSA), addressing a gathering in Kabul on Thursday.

    His comments come a day after Trump announced that he officially recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. 

    Trump described the decision as "a long overdue step" to advance the Middle East peace process.

    The US leader said his country would support a two-state solution if approved by both the Israelis and the Palestinians.

    “Israel is a sovereign nation with the right, like every other sovereign nation, to determine its own capital,” Trump said.

    Ahead of the decision, a spokesman for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas warned it will have "dangerous consequences" for the region.
