UNAMA WELCOMES APPROVAL OF AFGHANISTAN

AVA- "The passage of the new budget, which the government worked to develop according to international principles, signals another positive step toward a stable Afghanistan, which is an essential element of peace in the country," said Tadamichi Yamamoto, the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Afghanistan and head of UNAMA.
The UN envoy underlined that the new budget, finalized after extensive collaboration between the executive and legislative branches of Afghanistan's government, and following important civil society discussions, recognizes the commitment of the country to accountability and to its self-reliance strategy outlined at several international conferences, including in Tokyo, London and Brussels.
As Afghanistan makes positive, realistic and concrete efforts to meet its financial reform obligations, the United Nations and the broader international community remain firmly committed to supporting the country's democratic initiatives toward stability, development and peace.
