Members of an audit team from Afghanistan’s Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG) which was assigned to inspect the performance of Herat municipality, has been arrested in charges of bribery by intelligence operatives, officials said.

The head of the team and two of its members have been arrested red handed while they were receiving an amount of $13,000 as a bribe on Wednesday.
A governmental official who wished not to be named said the money was given to the inspectors by a security guard of the provincial deputy mayor.
The source claimed that since the detention of the team, a number of officials in the IDLG are trying to release the suspects, reasoning that the case was a misunderstanding.
