Three Arrested Over Illegal ‘Flogging’ of Takhar Woman
Kangaroo court victim taken to a place of safety in Taloqan, MoI confirms.

AVA- Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the illegal lashing of a 22-year-old woman in Chah Ab district in Takhar province.

According to the interior ministry’s spokesman, Najib Danish, the woman’s brother, father-in-law and uncle were arrested.

Danish says the woman has meanwhile been moved from her village to a place of safety in Taloqan, the provincial capital.

This comes after a video was leaked last week on social media of the woman being flogged in public. The incident however took place almost two months ago.

The kangaroo court reportedly found her guilty of unknown ‘charges’.

On Saturday the ministry of interior and the directorate of local governance sent a team to the province to investigate the matter.

In the wake of their visit, the three men were arrested.

The Ministry of Women’s Affairs has meanwhile condemned the incident and said this had been an inhumane act.

No details have been given as to the woman’s condition.
