ONSC rejects Chinese military presence in Badakhshan province

Afghan Voice Agency(AVA) , 18 Feb 2018 - 11:24

The Office of the National Security Council (ONSC) has rejected the reports regarding the presence of the Chinese military in northeastern Badakhshan province of Afghanistan.

AVA- A statement by the Office of the National Security Council (ONSC) said incorrect information are being circulated during the recent days suggesting that the Chinese military is willing to establish a military base in Badakhshan province.
The statement further adds that there will be no military cooperation with the foreign countries unless it has not been approved by the National Security Council and the President of the country.
The Office of the National Security Council says China is also being affected by the menace of terrorism and therefore the country is cooperating with Afghanistan similar as the other nations.
According to ONSC, the bilateral cooperation and relation between Afghanistan and Chinese has a broad scope but the reports regarding the presence of the Chinese military in Afghanistan are untrue and have never been raised by the officials of the two countries.
This comes as reports have emerged during the recent days that the Chinese military is looking to expand its military presence in northeastern parts of the country amid concerns regarding the growing activities of the terrorist outfits.
