Russia Expresses Concern over U.S., NATO Denial of Daesh in Afghanistan
The Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has voiced serious concern over the U.S. and NATO’s denial of the Daesh presence in Afghanistan.
AVA- “We are alarmed as unfortunately, the US and NATO military in Afghanistan makes every effort to silence and deny the Daesh group’s presence in Afghanistan,” said Lavrov during a press conference in Moscow.
He noted that Moscow is harboring suspicions towards the NATO coalition’s actions on curbing the threat of terrorists in Afghanistan.
“According to our data, the Daesh presence in northern and eastern Afghanistan is rather serious, there are already thousands of gunmen,” Lavrov said.
“This increases the risk of the terrorists’ penetration to Central Asia and it is not that difficult to get to Russia,” he added.
In the meantime, Pakistani Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif in a press conference has declared that the unchecked and increasing presence of Daesh is a cause of concern for Pakistan.
Asif stated that Pakistan and Russia share common concerns regarding “threats posed by prevailing situation in Afghanistan… which include terrorism, exponential increase in drug production, and use of drug money for terror finance”.
Asif repeated Pakistan’s stance that it is blamed for foreign forces’ failure to bring peace in Afghanistan and said it has rejected allegations aimed at “scapegoating” Pakistan for the West’s “monumental failure in Afghanistan”.
“Pakistan has sustained a lot of damage in the fight against terrorism,” he added.
This comes as Zamir Kabulov, Russia’s special presidential envoy for Afghanistan has recently warned that an estimated 10,000 members of the Takfiri Daesh terrorist group are currently present in Afghanistan, and that their number is growing due to the relocation of the terror outfit to the Central Asian country after territorial defeats in Syria and Iraq.
