Airstrike in Laghman province leaves 7 militants dead

At least seven militants were killed in an airstrike conducted in eastern Laghman province of Afghanistan, according to the local government authorities.


The provincial government in a statement said the airstrike was carried out at around 2pm local time on Tuesday in the vicinity of Alingar district.
The statement further added that a group of insurgents was targeted in Sangar Dara area, leaving at least seen dead.
Key members of the anti-government armed militant groups identified as Zurmat, Janan, Pahlawan, and Hejrat were among those killed, the statement added.
According to the local authorities, at least three militants were also wounded in the airstrike.
The militants killed in yesterday’s air raid were involved in major terrorist related activities in Alingar and other parts of the province, the statement said.
In the meantime, the provincial government said a new operation (Operation 23 of Silab-1) was launched in Alingar district few days ago.
Several militants have been killed or wounded the operations so far, the provincial government said, adding that dozens of improvised explosive devices have also been confiscated.
The anti-government armed militant groups including the Taliban insurgents have not commented regarding the report so far.
