AVA- The incident occurred roughly at midday in Sheengam village, Wata Pour district, in northern countryside of provincial capital Asadabad city, spokesman Ghani Musamim told media.
The explosion took place soon after the arrival of Shah Wali Hemat, a provincial council member, to attend a local funeral ceremony, he said. A local tribesman named Abdul Rahman also lost his life on the spot.
A security guard was injured in the explosion, the latest targeted attack in the country against government officials and local leaders, the spokesman said.
More details would be made public later as investigation is underway to find more facts about the incident, he added.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet. Taliban and ISIS terrorist group militants are active in the province and target the government interest from time to time.
On Wednesday, a district police chief and a civilian were killed and four civilians wounded after gunmen fired during a funeral ceremony in neighboring Nangarhar province.
