Taliban should not miss the chance for peace, says Turkish PM
The Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım has said that the Taliban group should not miss the chance for peace and reconciliation with the Afghan government as he called on the group to participate in the Afghan-led peace process.
AVA- Mr. Yıldırım arrived in Kabul today to meet with the Afghan officials to discuss the issues of bilateral interest between the two nations.
In a press conference with Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah, Mr. Yıldırım called the available opportunity for peace process as historic and rare.
He said the time has come that the Taliban group should join peace process and should not miss the chance.
The Turkish Prime Minister also welcomed the visit by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to Kabul and said Ankara supports the bilateral relations between Kabul and Islamabad.
The latest call by the Turkish Prime Minister on Taliban to join peace process comes as the group has so far refrained from participation in direct peace talks with the Afghan government and insists on direct talks with the US.
This comes despite the Afghan government proposed that the government is prepared to recognize the group as a political movement besides making other offers to encourage the group to participate in the talks.
In the meantime, the Turkish Prime Minister said Turkey is committed to maintain economic and security support to the Afghan government.
