Efforts were made in Bonn Conference to stop overthrow Taliban regime: Qanooni
The former Afghan parliament member and vice President Mohamamd Younus Qanooni says efforts were made by Pakistan and Saudi Arabia intelligence during the Bonn Conference to prevent the fall of the Taliban regime.
Speaking during a gathering in Kabul, Qanooni said Pakistan also opposed for the transfer of power to United Front during the conference and therefore another option was proposed during the conference to replace the Taliban regime.
He said the other option included a temporary government led by Hamid Karzai as a consensus already existed for the same.
Qanooni further added the peaceful transfer of power by the ex-President Burhanuddin Rabbani was one of the major achievements and a great honor.
In regards to the US-led invasion to topple the Taliban regime, Qanooni said the Taliban group was not fully eliminated as the leaders of the group managed to flee the country to remain safe from the invasion.
This comes as almost 17 years pass from the fall of the Taliban regime but the international community and the Afghan government have so far remained short to ensure and peace stability in Afghanistan.
On the other hand, the Afghan officials, believe that the ongoing war and violence in Afghanistan has links with an imposed war, emphasizing that the Taliban group and its associates, including Haqqani network, still have safe havens in Pakistan from where they plan and coordinate attacks in Afghanistan.
