Candidates’ nomination kicks off for parliamentary and district councils elections
The nomination of the candidates for the upcoming parliamentary and district councils elections formally kicked off today across the country.
The Afghanistan Independent Election Commission Chief Gula Jan Abdul Badi Sayad told reporters that the nomination process has kicked off in the capital and all other provinces.
Sayad further added that the nominees can obtain the registration forms from IEC offices in Kabul and in provinces.
He said the candidates should submit a copy of the finger prints of at least one thousand supporters along with the other documents needed for the registration.
In regards to the registration of the voters, Sayad said at least 322 thousand people have obtained the voter registration cards across the country.
He said the Independent Election Commission will remain neutral during the elections and urged the government to support the commission as a partner.
The Independent Election Commission Chief also emphasized that no one will be permitted to commit fraud in the elections.
In regards to the security of the elections and voting centers, Sayad said the commission is in contact with the security institutions to ensure security of the voters during the elections day.
The parliamentary and district councils elections are due to be organized on 20th October this year.
