Residents of central Daikundi province say they are concerned about the presence of Daesh or Islamic State and Taliban insurgents in border areas of the province.

Ali Jawahiri, a member of the provincial council, told Pajhwok Afghan News that despite being relatively stable province, Daikundi bordered unstable provinces that could deteriorate its security situation.
He said security forces in Daikundi lacked enough military equipment --- a major concern which militants often used to exploit.
Jawahiri said security forces with people’s help would not allow any group to disrupt the security. However, he said it was necessary to create an ANA battalion, increase police strength and military equipment.
Daikundi which is located 460 kilometers west of Kabul is surrounded by Ghor province in the northwest, Bamyan in the northeast, Ghazni in the southeast, Urozgan in the south, and Helmand province in the west.
Mohammad Rafat, a university teacher and civil society activist, said Gezab district of Uruzgan shared border with Patu district of Daikundi and Daesh were active in Gezab.
Meanwhile, Sayed Anwar Shahab, director of civil society network, said that Daikundi had long borders with insecure provinces of Helmand, Uruzgan, Ghor and Ghazni, posing a threat to the province security.
He urged the central government to equip provincial security forces with light weapons and increase their strength and pay serious attention.
Ghulam, a resident of Miramor district, said: “Few days ago, Arjistan district of Ghazni fell to Taliban and we were worried the Taliban would attack our district.”
He added border districts were always threatened by Taliban in Ghazni province, urging government to send more forces to the border with Ghazni.
But Brig. Gen. Ghulam Sakhi Ghafoori, Daikundi police chief, assured people of striving hard to maintain security.
“We will not give an opportunity to any group to disrupt security of the province and will face severe resistance from security forces,” he added.
Security officials have said nothing about rumors that Daesh is penetrating in Gezab district of Uruzgan that borders Diakundi.
