Pakistan wants successful return of coalition forces from Afghanistan: Gen. Ghafoor
The Pakistani military says Pakistan would like to see the successful return of the US-led coalition forces from Afghanistan.
Speaking during a press conference on Monday, the Pakistani military spokesman Gen. Asif Ghafoor said “We want to see peace in Afghanistan and would like to see US-led coalition forces go back after attaining success.”
Pakistan, he maintained, would extend any and every help for achieving that goal while keeping the national interest foremost, according to Dawn News.
Gen. Ghafoor once again denied the presence of the Haqqani network in Pakistan, but added a caveat that there might be some residual existence of the group in the Afghan refugee camps. He, therefore, repeated the demand for expeditious repatriation of the refugees.
He was apparently pointing towards the new US strategy for South Asia announced by President Donald Trump last year which resulted into deteriorating relations between Washington and Islamabad as US officials criticize Pakistan for the lack of action to root out all terrorist groups from its soil.
Pakistan’s foreign minister Khurram Dastagir said last week that Islamabad may reconsider its ties with Washington in response to the recent stance of Washington against the country.
