The foundation stones for a standard cricket ground and construction of 8.2 kilometers of road in Mazar-e-Sharif city, the provincial capital of Balkh, were laid during a ceremony today.
According to the officials, around million US Dollars will be spent for the construction of the cricket ground while the remaining funds will be spent on the construction of the road.
The Indian Ambassador said the government of India will finance the two projects.
Speaking during the ceremony, the provincial governor of Balkh province, Ishaq Rahgozar, said the two projects will be completed over a period of one year.
India has played a major role in the reconstruction of Afghanistan since the fall of the Taliban regime and has invested over $2 billion in various reconstruction and infrastructure projects.
The construction of the major Salma Dam, the new Afghan parliament building, Zaranj-Delaram highway, and some other projects are among the key investments India has done so far in the country.
The government of India pledged a fresh aid package of $1 billion to support the reconstruction projects in Afghanistan during a visit by President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani in late 2016.
