Iran and Iraq signed an agreement on Wednesday aimed at boosting security along their shared border, officials from both sides have said.
AVA- After a two-day meeting in Iraq’s city of Sulaymaniyah, military officials from Iran and Iraq announced that they had reached a deal on border security.
“Military officials responsible for the border provinces will jointly review and renew the protocol on a semi-annual basis,” Sherko Abdullah, a border official from northern Iraq’s Kurdish Regional Government (KRG), said.
Kayomarz Shaikhi, an Iranian border official responsible for the Kurdistan province, for his part, said: “We signed the deal with a view to ensuring the provinces located adjacent to Iraq.”
Iran and Iraq share a 1,450-kilometer border.
