Balochistan:

Gunmen kill 4, abduct 5 in SW Pakistan

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA), Kabul , 24 Mar 2012 - 11:10

Gunmen have ambushed a paramilitary check post, killing four soldiers and abducting five others in Balochistan Province in southwestern Pakistan.

The attack took place in the Pashtwara area of the province’s Zob district on Friday Press TV reported.

The gunmen reportedly killed four security forces, injured six, and kidnapped five others, a senior government official in the province said late in the day.

In another incident in the troubled South Waziristan Agency in northwestern Pakistan, a bomb blast killed a Frontier Corps official and injured his two children. The minors are in serious condition and have been shifted to a hospital in the city of Peshawar in the north of the country.

The explosive, planted in a radio set, had been placed outside the house of the security official in Wana Scouts Camp in the Wana sub-division of the agency.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for either of the attacks.

Militants, known as Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP), and their associated groups have carried out numerous attacks on security forces and civilians and managed to spread their influence in various regions of the country, despite frequent offensives against them by the Pakistani government.

Over 35,000 Pakistanis have lost their lives in bombings and other militant attacks since 2001 when Pakistan entered an alliance with the US in Washington’s so-called war on terrorism, according to local media.

Since late 2009, there has been a surge in militant attacks in the country.
