Afghan local police kill fellow officers in Kandahar

According to local authorities in southern Kandahar province, at least 4 Afghan local police forces were killed and 2 others were injured in an attack by fellow soldiers in this province.

A spokesman for 404 Afghan National Police Commandment in Southern Afghanistan Hekmatullah Kochi confirming the report said, two Afghan local police forces on Wednesday night opened fire on other local police forces killing at least 4 service members and injuring 2 others.

Mr. Kochi further added the incident took place in Zherai district at Nawbahar area.

Southern Kandahar province the birthplace for the Taliban militants group is considered to be one of the volatile regions in southern Afghanistan where several green-on-blue attacks at Afghan security forces and international coalition security forces have been noticed during the recent year.

According to security officials Taliban militants are involved in major green-on-blue attacks in Afghanistan.

Hekmatullah Kochi said Taliban is believed to be behind the attack which killed 4 Afghan local police service members however security officials said the incident could not confirmed immediately.

Taliban militants group yet to comment regarding the incident. (AOP)
