Less sitting extends life by two years
A new research demonstrates that people who limit their daily sitting down to two hours could extend their life span for nearly a year and a half longer.

According to the researchers’ calculations, adults who are only seated for a maximum of three hours a day typically live an extra two years. Watching television also has a similar effect, they claim.

Following a sedentary lifestyle threatens health and induces many serious problems such as heart diseases, diabetes and many forms of cancer.

Published online in the BMJ, the recent findings raise concern particularly amongst office workers who spend most of the day at their desks.

Analyzing 167,000 adults aged from 18 to 90 by the Louisiana University researchers and monitoring their activities revealed remarkable results.

They found that 27 percent of all deaths in America and about 19 percent of all deaths worldwide are partly secondary to watching too much TV.

“The results of this study indicate that extended sitting time and TV viewing may have the potential to reduce life expectancy,” researchers concluded.

“The study does highlight what we already know about sedentary behaviour being a risk factor for developing heart disease,” said Senior Cardiac Nurse at the British Heart Foundation Natasha Stewart.(Press TV)
