Afghan Cricket Team Defeats Australia in World Cup
The Afghan Under-19 National Cricket Team defeated Australia by 36 runs in the second match in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Under-19 World Cup in Abu Dhabi on Monday.

The Afghan team won the toss and set a target of 254 runs in 49.2 overs. The Afghan cricket team player, Mohammad Mujtaba, made 75 runs from 102 balls by hitting 5 fours and 2 sixes, while Ehsanullah made 63 runs from 78 balls by hitting 8 fours.

The highest scorer for Australia, James Bazley, batted well and reached 54 not out, but the Afghan bowlers held the ground and the Aussies could not make the target.

Wicket-takers were Abdullah Adil with 4 wickets, Sharafuddin with 3, Muslim Musa with 1, and Hashmatullah Shaidi with 1.

"I am very proud of our team, they played so well today," Nasir Jamal, the Afghan captain, said in a statement by the Afghan Cricket Board (ACB). "I don't think many people expected us to defeat Australia but we did it and we did it convincingly," he added.

"We hope the people at home are enjoying the victory as much as we are- we play for our country and our people and we love to make them happy and proud. Now we have to put our heads down and try to achieve as much as we possibly can in this competition," he said.

Before this, the Afghan cricket team lost the first match to Bangladesh.

Afghanistan will face Namibia in group B on Wednesday.
