Afghanistan defeats Bangladesh in its biggest cricket win
Afghanistan claimed its first victory over a Test-playing nation with a 32-run win over Bangladesh in Fatullah in the Asia Cup.

Asghar Stanikzai and Samiullah Shenwari rescued the war-torn nation from a precarious 5 for 90 with a 164-run stand to take Afghanistan to 6 for 254.

Stanikzai (90 not out) and Shenwari (81) batted cautiously to steady the innings before adding 107 runs in the last 10 overs for Afghanistan, which has qualified for next year's 50-over World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

The partnership was finally broken when Shenwari was run out on the penultimate delivery of the innings.

Bangladesh lost both its opening batsmen in the first two overs and then saw a flurry of wickets fall in the middle of their innings to be all out for 222 in the 48th over.

A half century to Mominul Haque and Ziaur Rahman's 41 off 22 balls took the hosts past the 200-run mark after Bangladesh was reduced from 4 for 161 to 8 for 165 in less than two overs.
Afghanistan, which was playing its fourth one-day international against a full member, is making its Asia Cup debut with India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka also taking part.

Bangladesh spinner Sohag Gazi has been ruled out of the rest of the tournament after injuring his right thumb during Saturday's match.

The 22-year-old was injured after he bowled just three deliveries.

"The cut was caused by the seam and it had to be stitched up. He will need seven to 10 days to recover," said national team physiotherapist Vibhav Singh.

Mahmudullah has been called up to replace Gazi in the Bangladesh squad for the remaining matches.

It was Bangladesh's second injury setback after paceman Mashrafe Mortaza was also ruled out.
Bangladesh, who also lost to India in their opening match, will now play Pakistan on Tuesday and Sri Lanka on Thursday.(ABC)
