Pakistan Postpones Talks With US Officials

Afghan Voice Agency(AVA) , 28 Aug 2017 - 10:47

Pakistan has postponed talks with a senior US official, which is the second such move in less than a week.

AVA- The talks between Pakistan and the US on the new American strategy for South Asia hit another setback on Sunday when talks between Pakistan officials and US officials were postponed, Dawn News reported.

"The visit of acting Assistant Secretary [Alice] Wells has been postponed on Pakistan's request. It will be rescheduled at a mutually convenient time," a seniorUS State Department official said on Sunday.

The rescheduling of Wells' visit was the second such request that has been made in less than a week.

According to Dawn News, Pakistan had earlier requested rescheduling the visit to Washington of its Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif, who was expected in the US capital on August 25 on an invitation from US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

Apparently a third visit, that of a delegation led by senior White House National Security Council official Lisa Curtis, will also be rescheduled, according to a report.

Last week, US President Donald Trump announced his new war strategy for Afghanistan and south Asia and criticized Pakistan for allowing terrorists to maintain safe havens inside its territory.

The strategy also suggested that action could be taken against Pakistan if it did not stop harboring terrorists.
