15 militants killed in Kandahar
Kandahar, the birthplace of Taliban militants, has been the scene of increasing militancy over the past couple of years.
Over a dozen Taliban insurgents were killed as troops stormed their hideout in Kandahar province south of Afghanistan, police said Thursday.

"Afghan and NATO-led forces stormed a hideout of Taliban rebels in Jalai district on Wednesday. As a result, 15 militants were killed and three others made captives," deputy to provincial police chief Fazal Ahmad Shirzad told Xinhua.

He did not give more details. Taliban militants have yet to make comment.

Kandahar, the birthplace of Taliban militants, has been the scene of increasing militancy over the past couple of years.

Taliban insurgents have vowed to intensify anti-government activities this year in Afghanistan.
