Pakistan to help Afghanistan in cotton production
Pakistan will help Afghanistan in cotton production and facilitate it for cotton processing to fulfill its domestic requirements. This was stated by Federal Secretary Ministry of Textile industry Division, Rukhsana Shah while talking to a Afghan delegation who called on her here Wednesday. The six member delegation comprising officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Government of Afghanistan and private cotton processors visited Pakistan. The delegation took keen interest in Pakistan cotton crop production technology, value addition, ginning facilities and capacity building for field staff as well as for farmers.

The Afghan delegation also showed its interest in coordinating with Pakistan Cotton Standardization Institute, Pakistan Central Cotton Committee and Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association for developing cotton standards, capacity building of field staff in cotton production technology and improving the cotton processing sector.
Federal Secretary Textile Industry assured the delegation that every possible facility would be provided to make their visit meaningful and enhance cooperation between both the countries.
She said that Pakistan being the ۴th largest cotton producing country has 63 years of experience in cotton value chain and will help to promote cotton production in Afghanistan.
Briefing the delegation, Cotton Commissioner explained the entire cotton and textile value chain and discussed the management of procedural details of various components.
Pakistan’s expertise in CLCV management and maintenance of cotton Germplasm evinced a great deal of interest, he informed.
Head of the Afghan delegation, Munib Abdullah expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome Pakistan has showed and the facilitation provided by the Ministry in making this visit a reality.
The delegation also visited Multan where they visited Central Cotton Research Institute, Multan, Ginning Factories and met with different association, scientists and farmers to identify venues of future collaboration.
