21 Taliban killed. 19 wounded in Helmand offensive

AVA- At least 21 Taliban insurgents have been killed and 19 others wounded during an air-and-ground operation in southern Helmand province, officials claimed on Sunday.

Nawab Zadran, spokesman for the Miwand Military Corps, told Pajhwok Afghan News the Afghan Air Force conducted airstrikes in the Bolan area of the provincial capital late on Saturday night.

He said six militants were killed and seven others wounded and a vehicle was destroyed in the overnight raids.

Elsewhere in the province, seven more insurgents were killed and three weapons seized by the security forces in Nawa district on Saturday night, said Zadran.

He said the security forces suffered no casualties during the Nawa offensive, in which three motorcycles were destroyed and 37 hand grenades seized from the militants.

He added as a result of the clearing operation in Nawa, which began a week ago, the district had been purged of militants. The operation is still underway.

Meanwhile, police spokesman Lt. Abdul Salam Afghan said police also carried out a raid on the Helmand-Kandahar highway. He said eight militants were killed and 12 other injured.
