MPs Walk Out After Nusrat Refuses To Leave Parliament Session
A number of MPs stormed out of Monday’s session after parliament secretariat head refused to leave despite allegations of corruption against him.

First deputy speaker of parliament Humayun Humayun and a number of MPs on Monday walked out of the Wolesi Jirga (Lower House of Parliament) in reaction to parliament secretariat head Khodia Nazar Nusrat’s presence.

Nusrat, who was accused of corruption earlier this month, was in parliament during Monday’s session despite his case having been handed over to the Attorney General’s Office.

Humayoun spoke out about this and said that Nusrat having access to his office and being in parliament could open the way for him to tamper with documents.

“Is it acceptable that a person who is accused by parliament and four commissions of corruption and who has been introduced to the AGO is allowed to come to his office daily and change documents? Is it acceptable that an accused man comes and sits in his seat (in parliament)?” asked Humayoun.

Although MPs asked Nusrat to leave the house, he refused. Finally Humayoun, who was chairing the session, said he could not continue the session in Nusrat’s present and walked out along with a number of MPs.

“There were some violations, unnecessary procurements, big contracts and suspicious issues and based on that the decision was made against parliament’s secretary,” parliament’s second deputy secretary Irfanullah Iran said.

A number of MPs said parliament’s administrative board and parliament’s secretariat officials should all be dismissed.

“I hope a decision will be made against the entire administrative board and the secretariat and that they are dissolved,” MP Sayed Ikram said.

“The speaker has confessed that he has embezzled (money), although it is limited,” MP Amanullah Paiman said.

Nusrat however has not said anything about the corruption allegations against him.
