41 killed in incidents of violence in Afghanistan
At least 41 people have been killed in various incidents of violence in different parts of Afghanistan.

At least 14 civilians were killed in southern Kandahar province when their vehicles hit two roadside bombs on Sunday.

"This morning a tractor and small truck hit roadside bombs in Arghistan district, killing 14 people and wounding three," AFP quoted provincial police Chief General Abdul Raziq as saying.

In another incident, five policemen and 22 militants were killed after the Taliban attacked checkpoints in southern province of Helmand early Sunday morning, a police official said.

The deaths come a day after bomb explosions and a rocket attack in southern Afghanistan killed 11 civilians, including at least four children.

Insecurity continues to rise across Afghanistan, despite the presence of some 130,000 foreign forces in the country ten years after the beginning of the US-led war in 2001.

According to a February report by the United Nations, 2011 was the deadliest year on record for Afghan civilians.

The death toll rose eight percent compared to the year before and was roughly double the figure for 2007.

Meanwhile, an international conference on Afghanistan is underway in the Japanese capital of Tokyo to discuss aid from international donors for the war-torn country.

Nearly 70 countries and organizations have sent their representatives to Tokyo to attend the two-day event which started on Sunday.
