Afghanistan optimistic possible return of B-52s to eliminate militants
The Afghan defense officials have expressed optimisms as reports indicate the United States plans to resume the operations of the B-52 bombers against the anti-government armed militant groups in the country.

AVA- A spokesman for the ministry of defense of Afghanistan Mohammad Radmanish said the return of bomber aircrafts could play a key role in eliminating the militants.

Radmanish told RFE that bomber aircrafts will play a key role and could prove effective in eliminating the terrorists, specifically their hideouts.

He said the Afghan forces will step up coordination with their international counterparts to eliminate the terrorists so that peace and stability can return to the country.

This comes as a US official quoted by Washington Post earlier said that the United States intends to resume airstrikes using F-16s, A-10s, and B-52 bombers.

The US President Donald Trump last month announced the new US strategy for Afghanistan and South Asia and vowed to continue the fight against the terrorist groups besides committing continued support to Afghanistan and the Afghan security forces.

He said the consequences of a rapid exit are both predictable and unacceptable.  “9/11, the worst terrorist attack in our history, was planned and directed from Afghanistan because that country was ruled by a government that gave comfort and shelter to terrorists.  A hasty withdrawal would create a vacuum that terrorists, including ISIS and al Qaeda, would instantly fill, just as happened before September 11th.”

He also added “I concluded that the security threats we face in Afghanistan and the broader region are immense.  Today, 20 U.S.-designated foreign terrorist organizations are active in Afghanistan and Pakistan — the highest concentration in any region anywhere in the world.”
