Literacy Is Foundation for Peace, Development in Afghanistan: VP Danish
Second Vice President, Sarwar Danish says his country will not reach to stability and development as long as illiteracy rates have not been reduced.

AVA- Speaking at a ceremony on the eve of International Literacy Day on Wednesday, Danish said: “Literacy is the essential right of every citizen and it is a foundation for peace and development in the country.”

“Without literacy we will not reach to stability and social welfare,” he added.

The Second Vice President called on the people to work together on issue of illiteracy. He said everyone has the responsibility in regard.

In the meantime, First Lady, Rula Ghani considered the role of literacy, important and vital for in country that experienced prolonged conflict.

Rula Ghani said literacy is playing an important role in development of the country and for new generation.

Following the issue, the Deputy Minister of Education for Literacy, Sardar Mohammad Rahimi said: “61 percent of Afghan people are illiterate and its eradication requires a national will.”

Rahimi added that the government officials should make further efforts to improve literacy rates in the country.

This comes as Afghanistan has one of the lowest literacy rates in the world. 38 percent of country’s population is literate, according to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO)
