Pakistan urges Afghanistan to fend off fleeing militants
Pakistan on Thursday urged neighboring Afghanistan to stop militant from entering its territory as a result of the ongoing airstrikes in northwest tribal region.

Security officials say that fighter jets are bombing positions of the Taliban militants in North and South Waziristan following the collapse of the peace dialogue between the government and the Taliban intermediaries.

The dialogue deadlocked over the ceasefire controversy as the government urges the Taliban to stop terror attacks for more talks while the militants say the security forces had "imposed the war" and they should first declare a ceasefire.

"We are hopeful that Afghanistan, as per its international understanding and bilateral understanding, would not allow any terrorist fleeing tribal areas to take refuge on Afghan territory," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tasnim Aslam told a weekly news briefing in Islamabad.

The spokesperson said now that military action against terrorists is in progress on this side, Pakistan expects the Afghan government and those managing security in Afghanistan to fulfill their responsibility.

She said Pakistan has emphasized that Pakistani soil should not be used against its neighbors and their soil should not be used against Pakistan.

She pointed out that during recent trilateral summit in Turkey' s Ankara, Pakistan and Afghanistan reiterated their commitment that they would not allow their soil to be used against national interests of each other.

Asked about terrorists hideout in Afghanistan, the spokesperson said, "We have raised our concern with the countries concerned and hope they would take it seriously."

She said Pakistan has repeatedly underscored the need for better border control and a top Pakistani official, during his recent visit to Kabul, had fruitful talks in this regard.
