Pakistan exports pork meat worth millions to Afghanistan
The traders in Pakistan are exporting pork meat worth millions of Pakistani Rupees to Afghanistan, it has been reported.

AVA- According to the local media reports, citing the authorities estimates, Afghanistan remains one of the largest markets for the pork meat exporters of Pakistan, being home to thousands of foreign forces and expatriates.

The local newspaper, The Daily Times, quoting the Pakistan State Bank’s latest data, reported that the country has exported pork meat worth more than $3 million since mid-2015.

According to the paper, State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) revealed that around $2.8 million worth of fresh, chilled or frozen swine meat was exported by Pakistan in the nine months (July-March) of Fiscal Year 2015-16 (FY16) and about $447000 worth of swine meat exported in the nine months of FY17.

Quoting the processing firm sources, the paper reported that the swine meat is being exported from Pakistan to Afghanistan to cater for the dietary requirements of the coalition forces.

Although pig farming and process, sale, and distribution of pork meat is prohibited by law of Pakistan, the processing firm sources are saying that the authorities normally turn a blind eye to the business.

In the meantime, the sources are saying that the meats are either obtained from wild boars found in the outskirts of Islamabad and other areas or proper pig firms are operational in the country.

The sources are saying that the chances of proper pig farms are very high as the foreigners in Afghanistan do not use the meat of wild boars or hogs and only prefer commercially-raised pork.
