Taliban, al-Qaeda planning assassination attempt on Pervez Musharraf
Terrorist groups the Taliban and al Qaeda are planning an assassination attempt on former president Pervez Musharraf.

The revelation from the Interior Ministry in a letter prompted media speculation that Musharraf may not appear in court on Tuesday. The letter was sent to the Home Secretary Punjab, the Islamabad police chief, the chief commissioner and other officials.

The Interior Ministry warned that terrorists affiliated with the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and al Qaeda have planned to target Musharaf inside or outside the court, Dawn News reports. The ministry also advised extreme vigilance and fool-proof security measures be taken to avoid any untoward incident.

According to the report, Musharraf's lawyer Ahmed Raza Kasuri said his client would not appear before the special court on Tuesday until he is provided fool-proof security.(DNA)
