11 Afghan army soldiers killed following traffic incident
According to local authorities in northern Afghanistan, at least 11 Afghan national army soldiers were killed and 19 others were injured following a road incident.

Samangan provincial governor Khairullah Anosh confirming the report said the incident took place on Kabul-Mazar-e-Sharif highway.

Mr. Anosh further added at least 4 Afghan soldiers were taken to Samangan hospital and the others were taken to Mazar-e-Sharif for treatment purposes.

He also said the Afghan soldiers had recently completed a three months training course and were expected to be deployed in Afghan army units.

According to Khairullah Anosh the main motive behind the incident was reckless driving however he did not disclose further information regarding the accident.

This comes as Afghan National Army and Afghan National Police have been accused of speedy and reckless driving in main cities and highways of Afghanistan which normally leads to major traffic accidents.

Recently a unit to monitor Afghan security forces vehicles was formed by Afghan Interior Ministry in a bid to prevent road accidents in the country.

According to sources in Afghan Interior Ministry at least 50 road accidents have been recorded during the first three months of the year in major cities of Afghanistan where Afghan police were involved.(AOP)
