A new step in Kabul-New Delhi relations; Discussion on investment, transit and diplomacy
Maulavi Bilal Karimi, Ambassador of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan to China, met with Sudheendra Kulkarni, former diplomat and colleague of former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, to discuss political, economic, transit and consular issues between Afghanistan and India.
In this meeting, Mr. Kulkarni stated that he is trying to elevate political and economic relations between India and Afghanistan to a higher level and encourage India to invest in Afghanistan.

Also, the Ambassador of the Islamic Emirate expressed hope in this meeting that India's unfinished projects in Afghanistan will be completed and bilateral trade relations will expand through the Chabahar Port.

The meeting of the Ambassador of the Islamic Emirate in China with one of the former Indian diplomats can be seen as a sign of the desire of both sides to revive political and economic relations. India, which has invested significantly in Afghanistan over the past two decades, has taken a cautious stance towards the Islamic Emirate following recent developments. However, Mr. Kulkarni’s emphasis on developing relations and encouraging Indian investment in Afghanistan suggests that some Indian circles are seeking new ways to engage with the Islamic Emirate.

On the other hand, the Islamic Emirate ambassador’s reference to completing unfinished Indian projects in Afghanistan and expanding trade relations through Chabahar Port reflects Kabul’s pragmatic approach to economic interests. Chabahar Port, as an important transit route, can help improve Afghanistan’s trade with India and other countries.

Overall, this meeting can be assessed as a positive step towards establishing new interactions between Afghanistan and India, but achieving the stated goals requires practical measures and serious determination from both sides.
