Equipment left over from occupation belongs to Afghanistan/Afghanistan can sue US for compensation
Following US President-elect Donald Trump's claim to withdraw the remaining military equipment in Afghanistan, political and military experts have strongly rejected the claim and called it illegal under international law. They also said Afghanistan could sue the US and NATO for war compensation.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Trump, has announced his plan to withdraw all remaining military equipment from US troops in Afghanistan. These statements come as political and military experts and analysts have called the claim unrealistic and without legal validity.

Ahmad Khan Ander, a political and military expert, told AVA that US politicians, including Trump, have tried to use the political and economic situation in Afghanistan to their advantage during their election campaigns. "Now that Trump is in power, he will do his utmost to improve the economic and political situation in his country. The Ukraine-Russia war and the management of five million illegal immigrants will also be his priorities," he said.

"Currently, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan controls the entire geography of the country and security is maintained throughout the country. Trump's propaganda can never carry out violent and coercive actions against the people of Afghanistan as it did 25 years ago. Rather, it is in the interest of the United States to do so," Ander said.

"According to international law, the equipment left over from the occupiers belongs to the occupied country. Trump's dream will never come true," he said, rejecting Trump's claim to recover the remaining equipment.

Ander also called Trump's threat to cut humanitarian aid to Afghanistan irrational, adding: "In terms of humanitarian aid, the United States and NATO member states owe Afghanistan. During the 20 years of occupation, nearly one million Afghans were martyred and the country was covered with blood and soil. Therefore, Afghanistan has the right to demand war compensation from the US and NATO."

"If Trump has dreamed of returning to Afghanistan, he should know that not only is this a shameful move, but global conditions and policies have completely changed. Alongside Afghanistan, there are large countries such as China, Russia and India as regional powers," he said. So, the US can never return to Afghanistan."

On the other hand, political analyst Vahid Faqiri told AVA that "it is difficult to predict Trump's future policies because he often makes statements that are more propaganda than real." He added that there is now a general understanding in the United States and the world that Trump's statements should be taken with caution and without seriousness.

Faqiri also noted that "Trump's future policy towards Afghanistan, especially in the field of claiming to recover the remaining equipment, is a new threat that has not been raised by Biden before." He said Trump wanted to put more pressure on the Afghan government through new threats such as cutting off humanitarian aid and withdrawing equipment.

"With Trump's arrival, the US may put more pressure on the Afghan government, but it is unlikely that these pressures will turn into military or air strikes. The US will certainly continue to try to restore its presence in Afghanistan," he said.

Donald Trump, the 47th president of the United States, officially entered the White House on Monday and held his inauguration ceremony.
