Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: Despite the increase in the volume of trade between Afghanistan and Iran, especially in recent years, it seems that some transit and transport problems have not yet been fully resolved between the two sides.
Reza Jamshidi, Deputy Coordinator of Economic Affairs of Khorasan Razavi, yesterday referred to the problems of Iranian trucks in Afghanistan and stated: Iranian trucks are delayed for at least 20 to 25 days after entering Afghanistan and are not allowed to leave, while Afghan trucks are only waited for three days in Iran.
This is while Hekmatullah Asefi, Head of Publications at the Ministry of Transport, denied these statements in an interview with AVA and said that the movement of cargo trucks from both sides is proceeding normally.
According to Asefi, except for the stages of transport and transit laws that are common in any country, there are no obstacles to the entry and exit of Iranian trucks in Afghanistan and they are allowed to leave on time.
Unprecedented increase in trade between Afghanistan and Iran, according to statements by officials from both countries
On the other hand, following the statement by Ghulam Hossein Mozaffari, Governor of Khorasan Razavi, that Iran's exports to Afghanistan this year have exceeded two billion dollars, Abdul Salam Javad Akhundzadeh, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, also stated in an interview with Ava that the volume of Iran's exports to Afghanistan in the first 10 months of this year has reached a value of two billion and 692 million dollars.
Akhundzadeh explained: Afghanistan's trade with the Islamic Republic of Iran in the first 10 months of 1403 AH, was worth two billion and seven hundred and 36 million dollars, of which 45 million dollars were exports and two billion and 692 million dollars were imports.
According to the spokesman for the Ministry of Industry and Trade, most of Afghanistan’s exports to Iran are minerals, raisins, lead, non-alcoholic beverages, vegetable seeds, sesame and mung beans, and imports from Iran include diesel fuel, petrol, liquefied petroleum gas, raw materials for manufacturing, car parts and machinery.
Executive institutions should provide more facilities to develop trade between Afghanistan and Iran
Earlier, Ghulam Hossein Mozaffari, Governor of Khorasan Razavi, had announced that Iran’s exports to Afghanistan this year had exceeded $2 billion.
On Sunday (February 16), Mozaffari emphasized that the volume of trade between Iran and Afghanistan is extensive and that executive institutions need to provide the basis for facilitating exports and imports between the two countries.
He also considered the lack of coordination between the border authorities of the two countries as a challenge affecting Iran’s exports to Afghanistan and emphasized the acceleration and smoothing of trade exchanges.
He added that necessary facilities should be considered to improve border infrastructure and facilitate the movement of cargo vehicles. It is worth noting that the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Kabul also announced in a meeting on Saturday (February 15) that Afghanistan's annual exports to Iran are more than $50 million.
