Western-affiliated media outlets publish false analyses about the country instead of news/National media outlets should expose their lies instead of remaining silent
In the second interview this week with the Afghan Voice News Agency (AVA) in Kabul, Mohammad Dawood Nazeri, a media expert in the country, stated that the majority of Western-affiliated media outlets publish watery analyses and lies about Afghanistan instead of news, emphasizing that domestic and national media outlets should expose their lies by producing documents instead of remaining silent in the face of enemy media attacks.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: Following the sharp reactions of the Islamic Emirate against Trump’s arrogant statements about the reoccupation of Bagram and considering the possibility of a new wave of psychological operations by the United States against the country and the appeasement of Western-affiliated media outlets in reflecting seditions and conspiracies, Mohammad Dawood Nazeri, the country’s media expert, discussed the publication and dissemination of some fake news about the Bagram deal and its return to the United States by the Taliban in the second AVA interview this week in Kabul.

Stating that the enemy is always looking for an opportunity to exploit any possible platform, he said: “Today, the enemies of the country (America and its allies) have many media outlets under their management and control. Some of these media outlets are directly and consciously funded by them, but others are unconsciously placed in the path of their goals.”

According to him, media outlets that are more personal and seek financial benefits are trying to attract more followers and readers and are simply in the path of the goals of big media outlets and US macro policies for more income.
Referring to rumors spread by some digital media outlets about the movement and return of American forces to Bagram, Nazeri added: “Unfortunately, due to the low level of media literacy among the people, our society is vulnerable to such false rumors.”

He continued that over the past twenty years, the discussion of improving media literacy has not been institutionalized in scientific and academic centers. For this reason, when false publications and false news are published on digital platforms, many people are confused.

He added: “One of the factors behind the low level of media literacy in society is the inefficiency of the national media, which unfortunately do not have much input into such discussions and only hold limited programs like Today’s Conversation to awaken the society.”

The media activist considered the government’s delay in responding to rumors from enemy media to be one of the reasons why people are vulnerable to false content, saying: “The sophisticated tricks and psychological distortions of Western-affiliated media, in a society with poor media literacy, lead to the formation of negative beliefs and protests.”

He called being deceived by false narratives a threat to the security of society and stated that some people may even take up arms against their fellow countrymen, influenced by the slightest rumor.

Nazeri said: “The enemy’s media tricks must be identified through careful examination and preventive measures must be devised to neutralize them. Just as countries built iron domes to defend themselves during the Cold War, preemptive measures must be taken against the enemy’s tricks in a soft war.”

He emphasized the distinction between “news” and “analysis,” adding: “A reliable news story must have specific news elements so that its accuracy can be confirmed through careful verification.” In his opinion, most of the news published by enemy media outlets is essentially false analysis, not news.

Nazeri considered reports about the return of Bagram to the Americans to be completely baseless, saying: “One of the signs that such news is fabricated is the excessive consistency and repetition of a narrative in Western-affiliated media.”

He added: “In the Bagram incident, we saw that the enemy organized a psychological operation precisely at a time when access to the internet and telecommunications in the country was cut off for two days.” According to him, this two-day information vacuum provided the ground for Western media outlets to pump out false information.

He also considered labeling prominent figures and inciting ethnic, racial, regional, and linguistic issues as other signs of the enemy's media intrigues.

This media expert called on national and domestic media, as well as media figures abroad, not only to not publish the content of enemy media, but also to expose and shed light on their conspiracies by actively participating in the media field.

He considered reflecting domestic realities to be the best way to expose false narratives and said: "If, instead of following the path of enemy media, we publish real documents from the ground and among the people and officials, their media plans will be thwarted."

Nazeri considered timely information from officials to domestic media, strengthening journalists, providing them with opportunities for growth, and freedom in media work as ways to prevent the spread of false narratives.

In conclusion, he stated that documenting narratives, holding media debates, restricting rumor-mongering foreign media, and government support for sympathetic domestic media are among the basic solutions to confront the enemy's media war, and emphasized specialized journalism training.
