Four Afghan MPs suspended due to long absence

Afghan Lower House (Wolesi Jirga) on Wednesday suspended four of its members due to long absence in first major disciplinary move.

Afghan Voice Agency(AVA), The lawmakers who were suspended from duty represented all four zones of the country.

They were Ahmad Behzad (western Herat), Bashir Ahmad Tahyenj (northern Faryab), Freshta Anwari (eastern Nangarhar) and Parwin Durrani who represented Kuchis (Nomads)

The move comes after the administrative board of the Lower House announced that MPs consecutively absent for ۲۰ days would get suspended.

“The administrative board has sent official letters to all (parliamentary) commissions and as a first step, the salary and privileges of absent MPs will be cut,” Abdul Qadir Zazai, the secretary of Wolesi Jirga had said this week.

Earlier, the Free and Fair Election Foundation of Afghanistan said that the absence of Afghan MPs was at ۵۱ percent in ۱۳۹۵, while it was ۴۵ percent in the Senate
