Pope slams use of 'mother' to describe massive bomb dropped in Afghanistan

Afghan Voice Agency(AVA) , 7 May 2017 - 12:01

Afghan Voice Agency(AVA), U.S. military used its largest non-nuclear bomb in combat – GBU-۴۳ Massive Ordnance Air Blast – on Islamic State caves in Nangarhar province, east Afghanistan on April 13. “Mother of all bombs” was used to describe the mega bomb in official statements and reporting and this has apparently angered the Pope.

“I was ashamed when I heard the name,” Pope told a gathering of students on Saturday. “A mother gives life and this one gives death, and we call this device a mother. What is happening?”

Weighing nearly 10 tonnes, MOAB killed ۹۴ IS militants as U.S. aims to defeat IS in Afghanistan this year.

Pope’s comments come as he is expected to meet U.S. President Donald Trump on May 25 in what will possibly be tough encounter given their opposing positions on immigration, refugees and climate change.
