Afghan MPs approve 11 cabinet picks, rejects the only female minister-designate
The Afghan lawmakers in the Lower House of the Parliament, Wolesi Jirga, today approved eleven cabinet picks introduced for the confidence voting by the government of national unity.

AVA- Among the minister-designates approved in today’s session include two key security ministers, including Tariq Shah Bahrami who received 141 confidence votes and was approved as minister of defense and Wais Ahmad Barmak who received 173 confidence votes and was approved as minister of interior.

Gul Agha Sherzai was also approved for the minister of borders and tribal affairs by receiving 158 confidence votes.

The Afghan lawmakers however did not cast confidence votes in favor of Nargis Nehan who was rejected as the minister of mines and petroleum after receiving 107 votes.

On the other hand, Mustafa Mastoor was approved as the minister of economy by receiving 155 confidence votes Shahzad Gul Aryoubi was approved as the minister of communications and information technology by receiving 115 votes.

Mujib Rahman Karimi was also approved as the minister of rural rehabilitation after MPs casted 129 confidence votes in his favor.

The lawmakers approved Hamid Tahmasi as the minister of tranport as well as Najibullah Khwajah as the minister of higher education. Tahmasi received 149 confidence votes while Omari 124 votes.

Faizullah Zaki obtained 126 confidence votes from the lawmakers to secure the ministry of labor, social affairs, martyrs and disables.

The nominee for the ministry of public works Yama Yari also received 156 confidence votes and was approved by the Lower House lawmakers.
