Murtaza Rahimi, a former Afghan deputy interior minister, was sentenced to three years in prison by the country's anti-corruption court on Monday.

AVA- The Anti-Corruption Justice Center issued the verdict for misuse of authority over fuel contracts which involved bribery.

Monday’s court session also saw Naweedullah Bakhshi, former director of procurement for MoI, sentenced to three years in prison.

Four members of Fuel Evaluation Committee that oversaw MoI’s fuel bidding and procurement process, were given one year and half each for their role in the bid rigging. They rejected the allegations.

Rahimi’s defense lawyer, Mohammad Naseer Rezayee, rejected allegations against the former official saying he had no role in the decision making of the committee. Rahimi was not present during the session.
