New Balkh governor to be introduced in army base near Mazar-i-Sharif

Afghan Voice Agency(AVA) , 10 Jan 2018 - 19:23

Mohammad Dawood will be introduced as the governor of Balkh in a ceremony in Afghan National Army's 209th Corps near the provincial capital Mazar-i-Sharif city, sources told 1TV.

AVA-Dawood, who is living in Kabul, was introduced by President Ashraf Ghani to replace Ata Mohammad Noor as the governor of Balkh province over three weeks ago. But Noor who has held the post for over a decade has refused to leave.

Noor’s Jamiat-i-Islami political party is negotiating with the central government over the issue. However, sources in the government said that the decision over Dawood is irreversible.

According to the sources, Dawood will be introduced in Shaheen Corps in coming days.

So far, Jamiat and the central government have held five rounds of talks. Some members of Jamiat delegation for the talks expressed optimism about the results of their negotiation.

Noor has repeatedly warned the central government of consequences if it uses force against him.

He, however, has said that he would accept any decision which his party would take.
