Trump and Modi reaffirm commitment to Afghanistan’s security
The US President Donald Trump and the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi have reaffirmed the commitment of Washington and New Delhi to the security of Afghanistan.

AV- According to White House, the two leaders discussed the security situation in Afghanistan during a telephone conversation on Thursday.

The White House in a statement has said that the leaders of the two countries repeated their commitment to Afghanistan’s security.

The statement further added that President Trump and Prime Minister also discussed other issues of bilateral interest as well as the political crisis in Maldives, the plight of Rohingya refugees from Myanmar, and North Korea.

India is one of the major contributors to the reconstruction of Afghanistan having spent more than $2 billion in various infrastructure projects since the fall of the Taliban group.

The country also announced a new aid package of $1 billion late in the month of December 2016 to support various reconstruction projects in the country.

on the other hand, the US President Donald Trump announced the new strategy of the United States for South Asia in August last year.

The US officials are saying that India is one of the reliable partners of Afghanistan and supports the continued engagement of the country in the reconstruction efforts as well as the implementation of the new US strategy.
