Raid on Afghan Checkpoint Kills 10 Security Forces

خبرگزاری Afghan Voice Agency(AVA) , 14 Mar 2018 - 15:56

Militants attacked a security checkpoint in Afghanistan’s western province of Farah early Wednesday, killing at least 10 security forces, officials said.

AVA-No one immediately claimed the attack, but a series of assaults by the Taliban in Farah province over the past week have killed at least 38 security forces, while another five were captured and several were wounded, AP reported.
Abdul Samad Salehi, a member of the Farah provincial council, said four of those killed in Wednesday’s attack were from the intelligence service and six were police.
“We have asked the central government for additional troops before Farah city falls into the hands of the Taliban,” Salehi said. He said security forces are battling the Taliban on three different fronts, and the insurgents have launched several attacks on checkpoints around the provincial capital.
Meanwhile, Ariana News quoted Dadullah Qaneh, a member of provincial council, as saying that the Taliban attack has killed 8 Afghan forces, including four policemen and four soldiers of the National Directorate of Security (NDS) of Afghanistan.
Elsewhere in Afghanistan, a suicide truck bomb struck a checkpoint in the southern Helmand province, killing at least two border police, according to General Abdul Ghafar Safi, the police chief of the province, which borders Pakistan. He said another three police were wounded in the blast. The Taliban claimed the attack.
The Taliban, who ruled the country before being ousted by a US-led invasion in late 2001, have renewed armed insurgency, launching attacks on Afghan military forces and Daesh (ISIL) terrorists.
Daesh terrorists first arrived in South Asia in 2014, using the group's substantial funds and weak local governments to cooperate with top members of the Pakistani Taliban and disaffected members of the Afghan Taliban.
