14 percent decline in level of water in Afghanistan
The level of surface of water has declined by 14 percent in five water zones of Afghanistan, the country's minister of energy and water said Sunday.
AVA- Speaking during a ceremony to celebrate World Water Day, Minister Ali Ahmad Osmani said that the level of water had declined to 49 billion cubic metres in five water zones of the country in 1396 compared to 57 billion cubic metres in the preceding year.
The decline comes is reported as the level of rain has declined by 52 percent in the country.
The northern water zones, particularly Jowzjan and Sar-i-Pul are below the water poverty line while water in Harirod zone is said to be not at the desired level.
Kabul residents have been suffering from drop in level of groundwater.
President’s senior adviser Hamid Helmandi recommended building small dams in different parts of the counter to tackle the problem.
Most of Afghanistan’s water flows out to its neighbours. The country has historical dispute Iran over water.
