AVA- The event is aimed at exploring ways of bringing the Afghan government, the
Taliban and other warring parties into direct peace talks. Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, the United Nations, the European Union are among the invitees.
The UK, Germany, France and Italy have also received invitations. Representatives of all Central Asian states are in attendance.
High on the agenda are the international community’s efforts to end the conflict in Afghanistan and bring peace to the war-torn country, where more than a 100,000 people have been killed since the 2001US-led invasion.
President Ashraf Ghani is co-chairing the conference being attended by foreign ministers from about 20 countries.
The Taliban, who have long been insisting on the pullout of American and other foreign troops in Afghanistan, will stay away from the meeting in Uzbekistan’s capital.
