162 Senior Army Generals Retire from the Afghan Military

Afghan Voice Agency(AVA) , 4 Apr 2018 - 16:45

Around 162 Senior Army Generals retired from the Afghan Military as efforts are underway to bring reforms in the security and defense sector of the country.

The Ministry of Defense of Afghanistan said the 162 Senior Army Generals received their retirement after their service term ended as per the Article 59 Officers’ inherent law.
A ceremony was organized in the Ministry of Defense to celebrate the retirement of the Senior Military Generals and was attended by senior officials including the Minister of Defense Tariq Shah Bahrami.
In his speech to the retired generals, Bahrami thanked them for their contribution in the rebuilding, training, and empowerment of the Afghan army as well as taking part in the combat missions.
The Ministry of Defense said the Presidential decree regarding the retirement of 162 Senior Army Generals was also recited during the ceremony.
This comes as President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani signed the retirement of at least 164 army generals earlier in Febrary this year in a bid to implement reforms in the defense sector.
“Putting our new military officers’ inherent law to practice, I just signed the respectful retirement of 164 generals,” President Ghani said in a statement.
He said “We want reforms to win the war and peace. We don’t want reforms just for the sake of reforms. This process will continue for our brighter future,” he added.
